June 14 - Get Healthy Scott County hosts Scott County ROSC Summit

Building a Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC) in Scott County will be held Thursday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mid-America Science Park, 821 S. Lake Road South in Scottsburg. 

Open to the Community. We also encourage the following people to attend:  Elected Officials and individuals running for an Elected Office, City and County Government Officials, Peer Recovery Coaches, Mental Health and Medical Providers, Law Enforcement, Justice, Prosecution, Education, Social Services, and anyone connecting individuals to services and resources in Scott County. 

 
Our Speaker for the Day:  Dr. Flaherty is a clinical psychologist with more than 36 years of practice. In 1999 he founded the Institute for Research, Education and Training in the Addictions (IRETA) In Pittsburgh. Prior, he was the Vice President for Behavioral Care at the St. Francis Health System in Pittsburgh and Director of its Institute for Psychiatry and Addiction Services.
 
He has authored over 20 Federal and Foundational grants and more than 45 articles, chapters and monographs on topics ranging from pregnancy and addiction, the science of recovery of focused care, workforce development in addictions and overdose prevention to the chronic disease understanding of addiction and how each community must be the cornerstone recovery.
 
A pioneering leader in building a science of recovery, over the past 10 years he has spoken in 45 states on recovery focused care and is a regularly invited adviser to the White House Office National Drug Control where he served on its National Heroin Task Force for overdose prevention and helped develop the first National Plan to address the opioid epidemic in America. He also serves as subject matter expert for HHS/SAMHSA’s Military, Veterans and Families Substance Use Technical Assistance Center and was a past clinical adviser to the Betty Ford Institute.
 
While with the St. Francis Health System, Dr. Flaherty was the co-founder and first Board President for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center local non-profit managed behavioral care company, Community Care. Today he focuses on clinical practice and assisting communities develop and implement Recovery Oriented System of Care (www.williamwhitepapers.com/leaders or Hancock County, Ohio). January 2016, he received the Pittsburgh Psychological Association Legacy Award for lifetime contributions to the W. Pa.
 
Dr. Flaherty is a retired Captain (Surface Warfare) in the U.S. Naval Reserve with 27 year’s service on active and reserve duty including active service in Bosnia, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He holds B.A. degrees in Philosophy and Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University and a M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Duquesne University.
