Houchin participates in Organization Day

State Sen. Erin Houchin (R-Salem) gathered with fellow legislators recently at the Statehouse for Organization Day — the ceremonial start of the Indiana General Assembly.

Organization Day is marked by the annual first roll call of all state lawmakers. This day also provides the Senate and House of Representatives the opportunity to organize before session officially reconvenes on Jan. 3, as well as to work on legislation in advance of the start date.

“I will be working on a number of issues in the upcoming legislative session, but addressing the opioid epidemic will be one of my top priorities,” Houchin said. “I will work to address this growing crisis at its source – the prescription pad – by continuing to improve our state’s prescription drug monitoring program, INSPECT, in order to prevent overprescribing and doctor hopping.

“I will also work to strengthen penalties for drug dealers in order to keep these dangerous criminals and their products away from our families and communities. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the General Assembly this session to make our communities safer and stronger.”

As the 2018 session gets underway, Houchin encourages residents of Senate District 47 to contact her with any questions or comments they may have. She can be reached via email at Senator.Houchin@iga.in.gov or by phone at 1-800-382-9467.
