IU Center for Rural Engagement

IU Center for Rural Engagement…. in collaboration with the Programming for the Performing Arts course through the Arts Administration program, is proud to present Envisioning the Crossroads: Salem of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 6:00-9:30 P.M. at Salem Middle School. This event will occur in conjunction with the Smithsonian Crossroads Exhibit at the Train Depot in Salem, IN. Envisioning the Crossroads: Salem of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow seeks to take participants on an interactive journey through art and music that captures Salem’s rich past, its quintessential present, and its bright future while they share their own integral, personal stories from life in Salem. Its strong community and encouraging future are facets that deserve being celebrated together. Guests will have the opportunity to contribute their stories and histories, memories, and hopes to a facsimile quilt that embodies the community of Salem with Indiana community artist Joe LaMantia. The finished masterpiece will be permanently displayed in Salem at the John Hay Center. Guests will also be able to enjoy and dance along to international recording artist Brad Leftwitch and the Hogwire String Band, presenting authentic folk and bluegrass music. Light refreshments will be provided throughout the event. This FREE and non-ticketed event is open to the public, their families, and friends and is appropriate for all ages.
