County safety commission meets to discuss school safety

The Washington County Safety Commission met today to review safety plans of all three school districts and discuss next steps to improve the safety of county schools. Commission members include local emergency planning, Washington County Sheriff's Department, Salem Police Department, Pekin Town Marshal, DCS, Judge, Prosecutor's office, and representatives from all three school districts.
School safety is the group’s top priority.  In order to prevent sensitive information from being accessed by someone wishing to do harm, schools do not publish safety plans.  What can be shared is that additional training is being planned, additional equipment is being purchased, and all are committed to using best practices in safeguarding students and staff.
