Eight SHS choir students advance to state festival

Twenty-eight choir students from Salem High School and Salem Middle School performed solo selections at the Indiana State School Music Association District Solo-Ensemble Auditions Saturday, Feb. 3, at Floyd Central High School. Eight SHS will advance to the State Festival Feb. 17 at Perry Meridian High School.

All SHS students performed Group I solos from the State required list. Students receiving Gold Medals and advancing to the State Festival include Nathan Smith, Isaiah Weill, Andrew Hoskins, Nathan Smith, Kaden Hebard, Cora Saunders, Justice Brown and Autumn Harley.

SHS students receiving Silver Medals include former State Festival soloists Elizabeth Batchelor, Tiffany Cooke, Sami Terrell, Jacki Azcuy and Melea Hardin. Other SHS Silver medalists were Kameron Gumaelius, Kelly Mount, Sydney Rogers, and Tyra Lucas. Madison Ewing was awarded a Bronze medal.

SMS eighth grade vocalist Destiny Davis participated in the High School Group I level and was awarded a Silver rating. Kagan Jenkins, Tirzah Hacker Alyssa Gregerson, Katie Hobbs, Torrance Davis, and Jonny Tally all received Gold Medals in their respective events. Pianist Abigail Kemp earned a Silver medal.

The students were accompanied by coaches Allison Fory Hall, Madison, and SHS instructor Bill Spencer-Pierce.
