The kindergarten teachers at Bradie Shrum Elementary are very happy to be able to bring the Real Men Read program to BSE for the third year in a row.  The program pairs a male reader, or MENtor, with a kindergarten class.

The MENtor comes once a month for four months and reads to the class.  Each child gets to take home the book that is read to them.  The goal of the program is not only to build each child’s home library, but also for children to see reading as something men enjoy too.

Our hope is that this program will help to introduce children to a variety of books and spark an interest in reading in each of them.

We are thankful this year to our sponsors who have allowed us to bring this program to BSE. Ansert Foot and Ankle, Ace Hardware of Salem, Good Living Pharmacy, Jason Wade State Farm Insurance, Kearschner Family Dentistry, and Dr. Tricia Wheeler Salem Family Dental.

Our students greatly enjoy this program and look forward to having their MENtor come each month.  Since the start of the program, we have put roughly 1,600 books into the hands of our students!
