SHS Studio Theatre Presents “Sarah, Plain and Tall” Oct. 27-28

The Salem High School Studio Theatre troupe opens its’ 2018-19 season on Oct. 27-28 with performances of “Sarah, Plain and Tall” in the school’s presentation room.

Based on the award-winning novel by Patricia MacLachlan, the play runs Saturday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m.

SHS Performing Arts Intern Nathan Smith directs a cast of 18 in this family friendly show, and Musical Theater Teaching Assistant Cassie Walton assumes directing duties for a pre-show historical presentation.

In a unique partnership between schools, a special Friday morning performance has been set up for the 5th grade class of Bradie Shrum Elementary School, who will be wrapping up a reading unit on the acclaimed children’s novel. Students will learn about the story and see first-hand how a literary work can be translated to the stage.

To allow 5th grade students a chance to read the Newberry Award winning book before seeing the production, multiple classroom copies were purchased by a Mahuron Grant awarded by the Washington County Community Foundation. Rita Elliot funded the grant.

Bradie Shrum Principal Brent Minton, SHS Principal Troy Albert, and SHS Performing Arts instructor Bill Spencer-Pierce collaborated on the project.

Admission at the door is $5 Adults, $3 Students, kindergarten and under are free. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain.
