SMS news staff gets real life experience at IU

Members of the Salem Middle School Cubs News staff had an opportunity to visit the Indiana University campus television and radio stations, WTIU, WFIU and WIUX on Friday, April 13.  WTIU is a PBS member television station owned by Indiana University. The trip to the IU campus provided students with a view of a real-life, large scale television station, the career opportunities available in the communication realm and the logistics that go into running such a business.

Former Cubs News staff member and current special segment DJ for the IU radio station (WIUX) Jalen Sullivan served as the tour guide for the separate student-run IU campus radio station. Cubs News is a program designed to provide an opportunity for students who are interested in broadcasting and journalism to hone in on their media skills. Students involved in the program create graphics, write script, run the behind the scenes technology, create special segments and design commercials  for the closed circuit show, which is aired live to the SMS student body, on  Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week.
