Letters About Literature is a reading and writing contest for students in grades 4-12. Once students complete reading  a book, poem or speech they have the opportunity to write to an author (living or dead) about how the item affected them personally. Judging takes place on state and national levels. Tens of thousands of students from across the country enter Letters About Literature each year. Indiana students submitted over 1,500 letters in the 2017-2018 Letters About Literature contest. Of these letters, 119 were selected by the State Judging Team as semifinalists: 45 from Level I, 55 from Level II, and 19 from Level III.  Among the 119 semifinalists, 27 finalists were selected. Among those 27 finalists, a First, Second, and Third place were chosen in each level along with 18 Honorable Mentions.
