Washington County Sheriff's Department

On the evening of Monday, Feb. 19, West Washington School District Safety Coordinator Robert Batchelor made contact with Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Brent Miller and told him of a possible threat reported to the school administration. Batchelor made a request for increased police presence the following day and Sheriff Roger Newlon coordinated the law enforcement response.
School officials acted appropriately and took extra safety precautions on Tuesday and law enforcement were present on campus to ensure the safety of students and staff. School officials worked diligently throughout the day, gathering information to be turned over to the WCSD for investigation.
Miller investigated the incident and an arrest was made. One student was charged and is being detained while juvenile proceedings are ongoing at the Washington County Circuit Court.
Law enforcement officials have found no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved with the possible threat. Officials further believe this incident is no longer an active threat at the school corporation.
Newlon said he is dedicated to working with all three Washington County school corporations to make schools a safer place. He would like to remind everyone to say something if they see something. Together we can make a difference.
