Voting site changes for primary election

The primary election is scheduled for June 2 and Stephanie Rockey, Washington County Clerk and County Election Administrator, is still encouraging voters to vote absentee. Ballots may be requested by visiting Indi- anavoters.com or by calling the county Election and Voter Services office at 812- 883-5748, ext. 1128.

In-person early voting will still take place, with COVID-19 CDC guidelines strictly adhered to, at the Washington County Justice Center. Dates for that are from Tuesday, May 26, to Friday, May 29, from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Also, Saturday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to noon and Monday, June 1, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Election day voting will result in polling location changes for some townships. The Salem Armory will still be the voting site for Salem precincts 1-4. The Washington County Fairgrounds will host voters from Washington Townships 1 to 4 and also Franklin Township.

The Campbellsburg Community Building will be open for voters from Brown and Vernon Townships, while Monroe Township Fire Station will accept voters from Jefferson and Monroe Townships.

Gibson, Howard and Jackson Townships will continue to vote at their respective fire houses. Madison and Posey Township residents can cast their votes at the Fellowship Baptist Church (formerly Bearcat Civic Center). Pekin Town Hall will be the voting spot for Pierce and Polk voters.

On election night, the Justice Center will be closed to the public. The results will be tabulated precinct by precinct in real time. The County Election Board will give the local media results as they happen. The newspaper will have updates on salemleader.com with a full report to follow in The Salem Democrat on June 4.

Rockey said, “As your County Election Administrator, the health and safety of my voters, election workers, my employees, and our families are my number one priority. I’m advising everyone to stay safe and exercise your right to vote – vote absentee by mail.”
