As a mom, what do you do for YOU?

Bunco. I had heard of the game, but never actually played it. I always assumed it was a game for older people and never gave it much thought...then my friend Erica moved back to the area. She contacted a group of us, all busy moms with lots going on, and asked if we would be interested in forming a bunco group.

You see, my mom friends are a lot like me and don’t always take time for themselves. Erica’s thought was if we all committed to getting together one night a month to hang out and play bunco, we would actually stick to it.

And guess what, a year later, we are still meeting monthly for bunco! It has become one of my favorite nights and I so look forward to it and seeing my friends.

The best part is, we don’t just play cards, we also talk and visit, share stories, give advice and laugh... a lot! It’s like group therapy! Good for the heart, mind and soul...and occasionally the bank account when I actually win! Ha!

I’d love to hear what other moms do to keep their sanity. Do you have friend groups you get together with regularly? Maybe a reading club? A running/exercise group?

What do you do for YOU?

I’ve noticed that I am a better mom, partner and just all around better person when I actually take time for myself.

I think it’s easy to get caught up in all the pressures moms often feel. Everyone needs something...kids, husband, work, etc. The house needs cleaned, jobs need done, kids need picked up, meals need to be made. Sometimes I feel like I’m being pulled in 100 different directions and I can’t figure out how to keep up with it and make everyone happy. Because my personality is to be a people pleaser. I like people to be happy.

Finding time for myself helps me get clarity, step back from it all, even if it’s just for a night, and breathe.

So, share and share away! Tell me what you do to help yourself keep your sanity. I’d love to hear your ideas.
