Every year, the Taste of Salem brings in thousands of dollars that go right back to the community in the form of scholarships.

This year, the annual event will be held Thursday, Nov. 1, at Cornerstone Hall. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and food will be served beginning at 7 p.m.

Money raised from the dinner and the silent auction will go to the Salem Education Foundation for scholarships to Salem High School graduates.

Last year, the event raised $10,000 for scholarships. The SEF, which was started in 1991, has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to SHS graduates over the years.

This is the 14th year for The Taste of Salem, which allows people to taste and sample foods from various restaurants in the area. There will also be a cash bar available at this year’s event.

Featured businesses are: Six Scoops, Main Street Pizza, QBC Catering/Ron Smith, Mulberry Grill, Express China, Christie’s on the Square, Kim Kiefer/Cake Kreations by Kim, Shady Patch Farms, The Destination, Robin’s Catering, Mamma Rosa’s, Cheddar Depot, El Camino’s, I Do Cakes/Marion Purlee.

Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at Salem Apothecary, Loy and Fordyce, Mid Southern Savings Bank and Salem High School. The event sells out every year, so organizers encourage people who plan to attend to get tickets now.
