'I beat the f--- out of baby LeeLee'
Leader-Democrat Editor

The man being held on two Class A felony charges in connection with the death of the 8-month-old son of his girlfriend told an aquaintance he had abused the child, according to the probable cause affadavit filed in Washington Circuit Court.

Leelan Crain died early Sunday morning, the result of blunt force trauma to the head, according to preliminary autospy results from the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office.

Jamie Lykins, 24, Salem, was arrested without incident Monday afternoon at Casey's General Store. He is being held on an $80,000 full cash bond ($360,000 surety, $720,000 property). He will have an initial appearance before Judge Larry Medlock Wednesday morning.

According to the PC affadavit, Casey Crain, the child's mother, said Lykins was angry that Leelan was crying Saturday evening. She told police she attempted to intervene as Lykins took Leelan into the bedroom to put him down for a nap, but he told her he would take care of it.

She said as soon as he entered the bedroom, Lykins turned the volume of the radio on high. She said she heard her baby crying continuously for 45 minutes, followed by silence.

Later, she went to check on him and found the baby severely bruised, not breathing properly and semiconscious.

Police interviewed two friends of the couple who arrived at the home because they planned to go fishing. Micheel Livingston said she immediately realized the infant needed immediate medical attention. She said Lykins didn't want to take the child to the hospital because police and child services would be called. Livingston and Gregory Lee talked Lykins into taking the child to St. Vincent.

Police also interviewed Dawn Walker, who was supposed to babysit that evening. She said she arrived around 7 p.m. and as she entered the house, Lykins looked at her and said, "We have a problem. I beat the f--- out of baby LeeLee."

Lykins told police a very different story.

He said after Crain put the baby down to sleep he and Crain were watching TV when they heard a loud thud. He said they went into the bedroom and found the baby on the floor with the injuries.

Lykins also told police he had been living with Crain since Leelan was a month old. He told police he thought of Leelan as his own son.

I think we all can agree on one thing: Justice for Leelan and Blame on Both for equal responsibility for the child's death and obviously some sort of drug problem....HELLO WASHINGTON COUNTY,IN PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE!!! CAN YOU LET WE THE PEOPLE KNOW WHY THE MOTHER IS NOT EQUALLY CHARGED FOR NEGLECT OF A DEPENDENT CAUSING DEATH INSTEAD OF JUST THE BF AND IF ANY DRUG TESTING WAS DONE ON BOTH??????????????????

I know Jamie Lykins and I have met her at one time and this just doesn't sound like something he would do....Cover up for a girl that I know has a drug problem YES! I'm not saying He is at all innocent when it comes to dabbling in some too...I did hear from him less than two months ago.I think we readers all deserve an explanation as to why this girl has NOT been charged for the same Charge for her part in this crime. In the past Jamie has stayed with me to get away from her and she would blow his phone up threatening all sorts of things if he did not come be with her I take it to help her get her fix. What is fair is fair and THIS IS ALL BUT FAIRESPECIALLY FOR THE CHILD..I will be contacting my Attorney to get some answers about this situation.GOD knew this child would be better off with him in HEAVEN than to have a HORRIBLE Mother that would not protect her child at any cost!!!. She is at least 50% Accountable for the charges against Jamie Lykins.

From all the talk that is going around I understand that the mom baby and boyfriend lived with his father and there have been bruises and unexplained injuries that were overlooked in the past..the police had been called to the home in the past and cps was supposed be notified..the boyfriend had a long history of drug abuse(meth) and as they say ..birds of a feather flock together..The mother should be held just as accountable as the worthless boyfriend..I read a comment that said they never dreamed that james was capable of such action but this is what drugs do to people and if girls think they are the exception to this then they are just fooling themselves..

Both parents are EQUALLY guilty of murder. NO ONE is more important than my children and their well-being, not even my husband and he would expect nothing less. When will people start A. getting married before having children, B. plan to have children so that both parents actually want children and are ready to put themselves second to a child, and C. stop being so selfish that they stop putting their wants and desires ahead of a childs??? How many babies have to suffer, be abused, or die before people stop being so ignorantly selfish?? It's sick. Both of these parents deserve to suffer at least as much as that baby did and the mother should NEVER be allowed to have another child.
