Bridge Replacement Project  Will Close SR 160 July 5

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation conducted a pre-construction meeting with its contractor and area utility providers at Seymour District offices this morning (JUNE 5) to coordinate operations for a bridge replacement project on State Road 160 near South Boston.  The project calls for a 30-day closure of the east-west highway.

Weddle Brothers Highway Group of Evansville, Indiana’s contractor for this $542,430 bridge project in Franklin Township of Washington County, plans to begin demolishing the existing S.R. 160 structure that spans a branch of the Middle Fork of Blue River immediately after the July 4 holiday.

The current structure—located 5.6 miles east of S.R. 60—is a 24-foot-long concrete box beam bridge on timber abutments that was constructed in 1964.  It will be replaced by a pre-cast reinforced concrete 3-sided structure with 28-foot span and 10-foot 8-inch rise measuring 48 feet in width to accommodate 30 feet of clear roadway side-to-side.

Utility providers will immediately begin relocating their services.

Beginning July 5, motorists will use optional routes to circumvent the bridge closure.  An official state highway detour utilizes S.R. 135, S.R. 56 and U.S. 31.

S.R. 160’s traffic count is 960 vehicles per day.
