Candlelight vigil

The Washington County Commissioners met on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. for their regular bi-monthly meetings. One of the topics addressed concerned a memorial service.

Amanda Coffee and Brandon Catalanotto asked about holding a candelight memorial service to remember the lives of George Floyd, Beronna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. They told the commissioners that they aren’t affiliated with any particular group and it is not meant to be a protest.

They originally had hoped to have the candelight vigil at the courthouse but agreed to move to the fairgrounds. The event will be held Wednesday, June 3 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

They said there will be an opening remark and then a prayer. Anyone in the audience who wishes to speak will be allowed to do so.

Washington County Sheriff Brent Miller was also at the meeting and he was agreeable to the setup.
