Claude Combs has pulled his name out of the race for the District 3 Washington County Council seat.

The Democratic party has not replaced Combs.

Washington County Clerk Sarah Milligan said the Republican party held a meeting June 29, authorizing the county chair to fill the vacancy for the party. They did not have a candidate in the primary. The party selected Republican Preston Shell to run on the November ballot.

The filing deadline for parties to fill vacancies and for independent candidates to file is Monday, July 16, at noon.

The next deadline will be the three county school board races. Filings open July 25 and close Aug. 24 at noon. Candidates must live in the school district they are seeking to represent and collect 10 valid signatures from supporters to be placed on the ballot.

Voter registration for the general election will end Oct. 9. Wednesday, Oct. 10, is the first day a voter may vote an absentee ballot in the office at the circuit court clerk.

The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6.
