Dare to Care Food Pantry is moving

The Dare to Care Food Pantry currently located at the First Baptist Church in Campbellsburg is moving! West Washington School has allotted a space for the pantry to move to. The school location will give the pantry greater space, which allow the pantry to serve more people!

The Dare to Care food pantry will be open in August at the First Baptist Church location in Campbellsburg on the second and fourth Mondays ( Aug. 13th and Aug. 27th) from 3:30 until 5 p.m.

Starting in September, the Dare to Care food pantry will be open at the West Washington School location, on the second and fourth Mondays from 3:30 until 5 p.m. (Sept. 10th and Sept. 24th) and every second and fourth Monday thereafter, unless the Monday falls on a holiday. In that case, there will be no pantry for that day.

The location of the pantry will be behind the school at door 20. It is very important to remember that since school will be in session, that no one can come early to the pantry and wait for the doors to open. The busses need to be able to move in and off the school property without being hindered by cars waiting to get into the pantry.

Therefore, the big rule of the pantry will be that no one can drive onto to the school property until 3:30 p.m., after the busses have left the grounds and any teenagers who might have drove to school.

Dare to Care is extremely grateful for this golden opportunity to expand the food pantry, but in doing so, they must follow the guidelines set. If anyone drives onto the school property before 3:30 p.m. to access the food pantry, they will be asked to leave, and return at 3:30 p.m. Please be respectful of this rule.

The food pantry will stay open until 5 p.m. If you are in line, we will not turn you away at 5 p.m. we will serve everyone until the line is gone or the food runs out.

The Dare to Care food pantry serves all of Washington County. There are no income guidelines, but you must bring an ID showing you live in Washington County. If you recently moved to Washington County, just bring some mail or any paper showing your current Washington County address.

If a person is ill or homebound, that person may send another person to serve as their Proxy to pick up food on their behalf.

To receive food for an ill or homebound person, the person serving as Proxy must present the following three things:

    1. The ill or homebound person’s photo Washington County ID

    2. Current piece of mail, confirming the address of the ill or homebound person.

    3. A dated note from the ill or homebound person, which identifies the person serving as their Proxy.

This note needs to include the phone number of the ill or homebound person. The pantry staff may call the ill or homebound person to confirm he/she has sent a Proxy on their behalf. After the first pickup, the Proxy person will only need to state the name of the person they are picking up for, and their own ID.

The paperwork from the Dare to Care food pantry currently located at the First Baptist Church in Campbellsburg will be brought over to the new location at the school, those people will not have to sign a new form. Everyone else coming for the first time to the pantry, will have to complete a form, stating your name, address, how many is in your household, number of children, number of adults, number of seniors, and any veterans. This paperwork will be kept on file, and when you return, you will only need to sign in.

The boxes of food are made up into three groups: families with one to three people, families with four to five people and then families with six or more. All boxes in each group are made as similar as possible. At each pantry day, produce items will be available and sometimes bread items.
