With monetary donations running low, the Washington County Food Bank is looking for help.

“We have about a two-month supply of funding in our account now,” said volunteer Paul Scifres.

“We are giving out a lot of ‘free to us’ stuff, like soup, to cut back on spending.”

He said the food bank did have two columns of names of donors and they are now down to one column.

“We are just not getting as much as we once did and I’m not sure why,” he said. “We have been watching the funds dwindling and have tried to cut back.”

He said they receive donations of soup from Morgan’s Packing in Austin and said thanks to Salem Rental loaning the food bank a trailer, they are able to get two pallets full to bring back. Scifres added that Salem Lumber also loans them a mule to unload the pallets at the food bank.

“We go over to Morgan’s every five to six weeks,” he said. “Salem Rental and Salem Lumber have really helped us out.”

Scifres said they are still receiving about 15-35 banana boxes full of produce, as well as dairy and bread from Walmart weekly. They also receive donations from JayC and Ruler.

Anyone wishing to make a donation may contact the Washington County Food Bank at (812) 883-2655. The food bank is located at 106 N Water Street in Salem.
