#FurryFriendFriday pets

Teddy Bear, Skipper, Flip and Sugar are waiting at the shelter. Yes, Skip looks a bit horrified at his predicament, but he'll warm up pretty quickly. Head over to the shelter to give him (or any of them) pets. You may meet your new best friend.

Dogs

• "Sheba" is a 2-year-old Mastiff mix, about 65 pounds. She was abandoned with another dog for about a week after her previous owners moved and didn't take the dogs with them. Likes: televised tennis, Christmas lights, hot dogs. Dislikes: raw broccoli, Furbies, being abandoned.

• "Artemis" is a 4- to 5-year-old female Lab mix, around 45 pounds. She is chipped, but the shelter has been unable to track down her previous humans. Shelter staff say she's a very nice dog, who isn't noisy or hyper. Likes: black and white movies, chilled (but not iced) water, popcorn. Dislikes: iced water, when she finds produce she'd forgotten about in the back of the fridge long after it should have been thrown away, bad wifi.

• "Murray" is a 4-year-old chocolate Lab, male, 65 pounds. Good with other dogs. Likes: fetch, watching Olympic figure skating, the idea of being a magazine subscriber even if he has no time to read them. Dislikes: fake throws, that time when he fell trying to figure skate on a frozen puddle, Roombas.

• "Willow" (AKA "Shallow") is a female Lab mix, brought in with her daughters. Likes: Reading food blogs but never actually cooking, cardigans, cars with those heated seats. Dislikes: Being cold, mushrooms, pennies (they cost more to make than they're worth).

• “Mhera” is a 3- or 4-year-old, female shepherd mix who’s not great with young children and has no interest in other dogs, but she does know how to sit and beg and walks well on a leash. If you would like an application for this little lady, please email rockhaven83@gmail.com. Likes: alone time, nature documentaries, when things go her way. Dislikes: goldfinches, artificial sweeteners, people on Facebook who can’t make a post without mentioning the essential oils/dietary supplements/acne creams they sell on the side.

• "Shelley" is a 3-year-old brindle female. She was adopted from the shelter 1 1/2 years ago, but was returned for killing chickens. Weighs around 45 to 50 pounds. Housebroken and good with kids. Likes: chicken, Olympic curling, wagging her tail. Dislikes: fish of any kind (dead or alive), John Wayne movies, getting feathers in her nose.

• “Calla” (AKA "Honey") is a Lab-pit mix, 2-3, brought in with another dog in October. She would like to find someone who will take care of her. Likes: chicken nuggets, romping outside, going for walks. Dislikes: thunderstorms, puddles (could get her feet wet), Frank Sinatra.

• "Skipper" is a male beagle, 1- to 2 years old, around 25 pounds. Likes: Roorooroo-ing, sniffing, being a dog. Dislikes: his lack of opposable thumbs, slow email servers, fish.

• “Hoss” is a male pit bull, 2 years, who has been waiting at the shelter for several months, wondering why no one seems to want him. He’s fine with other dogs but absolutely not fine with cats. About 60 pounds. Very friendly, loves everyone he meets, and is always up for a ride in the car. He’s very strong and has a lot of playful energy. He’ll need a home with a fenced yard and no small children. If you would like to fill out an application for Hoss, please email rockhaven83@gmail.com. Likes: hot dogs, bratwursts, steak. Dislikes: cats, when someone steals his spot on the couch when he was only going to be up for a minute, getting wet.

• "Hecate" is a female pit mix, brindle. Came to the shelter full of milk, but the shelter hasn't been able to find her owner or any puppies. Likes: steak, a nice salad, heavy metal music. Dislikes: no easy access to birth control, the rising cost of health insurance, pickles.

• "Sugar" is a pit mix, 1-2, female. She's working on housebreaking and loves to hang out with kids. She's around 50 pounds. If you would like an application for Sugar, email rockhaven83@gmail.com. Likes: bounding, looking out the window, watching Grey's Anatomy. Dislikes: Shonda Rhimes (how many favorite characters have to die before you're satisfied, Shonda? How many?), televised fishing (really?), when her phone doesn't ding when she gets a message.

• "Freya" is a female Lab mix. Likes: sweets, romping, the color yellow. Dislikes: the color red, citrus fruits, ear mites.

• "Wyatt" is a 3-year-old boxer mix, male, who was surrendered because another dog kept attacking him. Likes: sniffing the flowers, watching the sunset, the book "The Story of Ferdinand" by Munro Leaf. Dislikes: aggression, shouting, fizzy drinks.

• "Batman" is a male mix, 1-2 years old, around 30 pounds. Came to the shelter wearing a Batman sweater. Likes: the color black, solitude, being disgustingly rich. Dislikes: Superman, gun violence, cackling madmen.

• "Baby Girl" is a female Lab mix, came in with her mother and sister. Nice and social, but could use some leash training. About 40 pounds. Likes: Hayao Miyazaki movies, churros, making new friends. Dislikes: leashes, Roombas (they'll eat her food and eat the couch and eat the children and why does no one STOP THEM???), alfalfa.

• "Vader" is a male pit bull, about 45 pounds. Likes: cupcakes, flowers, ruling the galaxy. Dislikes: backtalk from subordinates, sand, lava.

Cats

• "Teddy Bear" is a male cat with lots of personality. Likes: being snuggled (but on his terms), watching uncomfortable weather from the comfort of the couch through the window, ending dust bunnies. Dislikes: carrots of any kind, unexpected ghosts, the existential dread he feels once weekly.

• "Flip" is a 6-month-old orange and white kitten. Thought Twitter was a social media site for birds and was extremely disappointed to find this wasn't true. Likes: feather-on-a-stick toys, smashing the patriarchy, bubbles. Dislikes: Twitter, not being worshipped, snow.

• "Jax" and "Bit" are kitten roommates at the shelter. They like: drinking water via dipping their paws in their bowl and licking it drip by drip, chirping showtunes (they take turns with the parts in duets), competitive swing dancing. Dislike: hardwood floors (slippery and not to be trusted), tip-able water bowls, being wet.

Adoption fees include rabies shot and normal cost of spay and neuter. Adoption cost for dogs is $80 and $50 for cats. The return-to-owner fee is $10, plus a $2 per-day board fee and proof of rabies shot or another $10.
