UPDATE: I-265 EB now open in Floyd County after sinkhole repair

FLOYD COUNTY, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation has reopened I-265 EB in Floyd County after it was closed between Charlestown Road and I-65 early Wednesday morning due to a sinkhole.

A number of motorists reported a large pothole on I-265 EB Tuesday night, causing Indiana State Police to close the affected lane. After further investigation, a sinkhole was found underneath the roadway, prompting a full closure of eastbound lanes.

MAC Construction was on site all day and into the evening Wednesday, working to repair the roadway.

FLOYD COUNTY, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation closed I-265 EB early this morning between Charlestown Road and I-65 in Floyd County due to a sinkhole that has developed on the roadway.

A contractor is currently on site working on repairs.

INDOT hopes to have the road reopened later today, weather permitting.

Lane closures on I-265 WB scheduled this evening for inspection

FLOYD COUNTY, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation closed I-265 EB early this morning between Charlestown Road and I-65 in Floyd County due to a sinkhole that was discovered underneath the roadway.

A number of motorists reported a large pothole on I-265 EB Tuesday night, causing Indiana State Police to close the affected lane. After further investigation, a sinkhole was found underneath the roadway, prompting a full closure of eastbound lanes.

MAC Construction is currently on site working on repairs to fill and cap the hole.

In addition, INDOT will close lanes of I-265 WB this evening at approximately 6 p.m. to conduct an inspection of the westbound side of the roadway using ground penetrating radar. This will ensure the sinkhole does not extend under westbound lanes. Alternating lane closures will be in effect for approximately two hours.

INDOT expects to have I-265 EB reopened to traffic Wednesday evening.
