Learn how to fight addiction with your fork!

Living Free Community of Washington County (formerly Lifeline Washington County) will host its annual chili supper and fund raiser at Southern Hills Church in Salem, IN on Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. This event, open to the public, is focused on getting information out to the community about recovery options for those battling addiction, and support for their family members. The all-you-can-eat chili supper is free, and will be followed by a dessert auction, conducted by Maurice Lee Day.

"This is the only fund raiser we do each year," said Living Free Community Director, Bruce Stephenson. "The dessert auction is always very entertaining, and we appreciate the generosity of the people who donate and bid on the pies, cakes, brownies and cookies. We try to balance the evening with good food, amazing desserts and important information."

This year the program will feature information about ways Living Free Community and its affiliates are helping prevent addiction, by providing opportunities for local youth. Information will be shared about the Living Free Community scholarship program to help students further their education, and summer camps for students of all ages. Proceeds from the event will help fund both these initiatives as well as the purchase of materials for support groups.

Some of the local organizations that will be on hand to answer questions and provide information at the event will include:
  • CARE Pregnancy Center, Salem
  • Wonder Valley Christian Camp, Salem
  • Center For Women's Ministries, Salem
  • Pekin Outreach Center, Pekin
  • Freed From Within, Corydon
  • Child Place, Jeffersonville

Living Free Community of Washington County understands the fight against substance abuse in our community is a complex one. For each individual battling addiction, many different approaches and resources are needed for a successful recovery. The family and community play a vital role. This annual event is a chance for several organizations to come together and explain the many options available to hurting families. Living Free Community strives to connect individuals with the resources they need to overcome addiction of any kind, while offering support and hope to their families and loved ones.

Please make plans to attend this fund raiser and community resource meeting on Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. at Southern Hills Church in Salem. The church is located on Highway 135 just south of Salem. About Living Free Community of Washington County
This organization began in 2001 as Lifeline Washington County has been providing faith-based education, support groups, training and financial support for those struggling to overcome life controlling addictions since then. Local classes are offered for those who are looking for answers, but due to family or work commitments, cannot enter a residential recovery program. Lifeline also helps fund entry fees for individuals who wish to attend a long-term residential facility. Local support groups are offered for family members, to help them understand the role they can play in helping a loved one overcome addiction, and several training sessions are held each year to equip more small group facilitators.
