Organizers say free summer events were a huge success

It all began with a desire to provide more community activities aimed at families with children. The effort has been extremely well-received – in just three years, attendance at the free summer events has increased 297 percent.
“‘Strong Communities Raise Strong Children,’” said Tara Carlisle, new director for Hoosier Hills PACT. “This saying is demonstrated through the programming made available through the free local summer events collaboration. These events help to create strong family bonds and give young people the opportunity to develop skills that will increase creativity, self-expression, and perhaps even their self-confidence,” said Carlisle. “We believe that when the community invests in our young people, we are investing in the future of the county.”
There were 270 children who took part in at least one program this summer, with some attending most or all four. In 2015, just 68 kids participated.
