Summer fun for kids

The Piper Flight Museum was full of kids recently during a field trip from Parks and Rec. Kids explored the museum, did crafts, learned about aviation and watched planes take off and land.

There are several more opportunities for kids to have fun while learning this summer.

The Salem Public Library is offering the following events this week:

Tuesday: Space out with a family movie at 2 p.m.

Thursday: Young adults are invited to take part in a community service project at 2 p.m. Items will be supplied for participants to help those in need in the community. For youth in grades 6-12. Pre-register by calling 812.883.5600.

Coming next week, kids are invited to Fairies & Gnomes to the Moon and Kids to the Pool! Fairies and gnomes have left earth and flown to the moon. Come to the shelterhouse at the fairgrounds on Tuesday, July 23rd, at 2 p.m. to help them rebuild their houses on the moon. The Salem Parks & Rec Department will hand out free swim passes for that afternoon.

Summer Reading Program participants must turn in their record sheets by next Monday, July 22nd, at 5 p.m. if they want to take part in the closing program. Otherwise, the program ends July 31.
