Visitors welcome to step back in history during Old Settlers' Days' Crown Hill walking tour

The Historical Walking Tour at Crown Hill Cemetery will take you on a historical stroll through Salem's rich history.

Not only will visitors be informed of Washington County's historical background during the tour, they will also have the opportunity to meet some of Salem's most well-known citizens of the past.

The knowledgeable tour guides will introduce guests to ten of the most interesting, eccentric (and sometimes infamous) characters buried in Salem's Crown Hill Cemetery.

Guests can take two separate tours, each containing its own collection of characters, alloweing visitors to take a different tour each night or both in the same evening. Tours will be able to leave more frequently because organizers will offer the tours at the same time.

Take a tour on Sept. 20 and 21 between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Tour groups will leave every 10 to 15 minutes from the entry to Crown Hill Cemetery. Admission is a donation to Washington County Theatre. Each tour will be approximately 30 to 45 minutes and cover about a half-mile on paved pathways. All groups will be led by tour guides and lanterns will be provided after sunset. Groups of no more than 20 individuals can go on each tour.

This walking tour is a fun event for all ages. This tour is NOT haunted. You will simply be meeting characters from the past who are buried in Crown Hill Cemetery.
