Orville A. Nichols, 85, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at his residence. He was born on October 23, 1932 in Benton County, Indiana, the son of the late Thomas Everett and Mary Josephine (Wilson) Nichols. Orville spent most of his young life in Little York, Indiana and graduated from Salem High School in 1950. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1996 after 40 years of service. Orville was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Scottsburg First Christian Church and Past Master and member of the Scottsburg Lodge #572 F & AM.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Michael Nichols and a brother, Arnold Nichols.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty Jean (Long) Nichols; a son, Steven D. Nichols of Lexington, Kentucky; a daughter-in-law, Terri Nichols of Union, Kentucky; a brother, Melvin Nichols and his wife Alice of Lexington, Indiana; two sisters, Irene Scifres of Salem, Indiana and Catherine Click of Scottsburg, Indiana; three grandchildren, Corey Nichols, Jamie Potter and her husband Mark and Drew Nichols and two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Adalyn Potter.

Cremation services were entrusted to Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Orville's family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm on Thursday, August 30, 3018 at Collins Funeral Home.

Private burial with full military services will be held later in Scottsburg Cemetery.
