Arville Wiseman

Arville Wiseman, 92, Corydon, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at his home near Corydon. 

He was born Jan. 9, 1926, near Central, to the late James Clarence and Jenny Mae Frakes Wiseman. He attended Corydon High School and was inducted into the Army in April 1944 and was deployed to the European Theater in December 1944. He was in Germany, France, Holland, and Belgium areas, and he was in the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded in his right leg. He received the Purple Heart, two bronze stars, European –African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbons, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany). He was discharged from the Army in June 1946. 

He was a U. S. Rural Letter Carrier for the Corydon Post Office, and was a lifetime farmer living on Wandering Acres Farm on Union Chapel Road. He was a former school bus driver, a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Old Capitol Saddle Club, V.F.W. Post 2950, American Legion, Farm Bureau, Harrison County Cattle Association, and was the past president of Central Cemetery Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Goldia Deutch.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Annis Harbaugh Wiseman, whom he married on July 3, 1953; and his daughter, Virginia Lee “Ginnie” Wiseman of Corydon.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Rev. Richard Goodwin and Rev. Ed Lane will officiate. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Central.

Visitation will be 4–8 p.m. Tuesday, 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Wednesday, and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
