Duane E. Sears

Duane E. Sears, 88, of Seymour, and longtime Scott Co., Indiana resident, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021.

He was born April 18, 1933, in Henry Co., Indiana, the son of the late Orville and Opal (Mellinger) Sears.

He served his country as an Army Veteran in Korea in 1952. While stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he met Shirley Cox, his bride, of 68 years. Upon completion of his tour of duty, they returned to and settled in Henry Co., Indiana. In 1960 they moved their young family to Scott Co. Over the years, Duane established masonry construction and custom saw milling businesses. Most importantly, Duane committed his life to Jesus. Serving at Bethel Baptist, Salem Faith Christian, Cornerstone of Seymour, and Grace Point Church in New Whiteland.

He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Opal (Mellinger) Sears, and all seven of his siblings.

He is survived by his wife Shirley (Cox) Sears; son Michael (Melia) Sears; daughter Gayle (Steve) Dickerson. His six grandchildren, Mya (John) Blanford; Morgan Dickerson; Kellen (Lauren) Barnes; Josiah (Lyndee) Sears; Hannah (Elliott) Schurr; Nic (Fiancé Rachel) Dickerson. He and Shirley are also blessed with six great grandchildren, Tinley, Bo, Anna Grace, Vince, Ryan and Lenora.

Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with Nicolas Dickerson officiating. There will also be the opportunity to watch the Funeral Service virtually from Collins Funeral Home Facebook page live on Saturday at 1:00 pm. Visitation: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday. Interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Leota, Indiana.
