Jean Ann (Morris) Evans

Jean Ann (Morris) Evans, 73, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, January 4th 2019 surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born in Salem, Indiana to Howard and Maysel Irene Morris. She graduated from Salem High School in 1963, then followed in her father’s footsteps to pursue a career in education. On June 20th, 1964 Jean married Bill Evans, the love of her life, in Salem, Indiana. Jean obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education from Indiana State University. She then graduated from Butler’s Experiential Program for Preparing School Principals certification program in its inaugural year.
Jean started her teaching career at Thornton School in Terre Haute, Indiana. She and Bill then moved to Indianapolis, where she worked as a dedicated teacher and then principal at several Indianapolis Public Schools. Her career included teaching at Riley School 43, coordinating instruction at School 14, and serving as principal at Schools 86 and 84, from where she retired. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and the National Education Association.
 Jean found great joy in her work, many dear friends and her family, especially her grandchildren. Throughout their 54 years of marriage, Bill and Jean enjoyed camping and travel, especially their many visits to Hawaii where they fell in love with its culture and people.
Jean is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Bill M. Evans; son Craig (Christy) Evans; daughter Amy (Craig) Harger; grandchildren, Nolan, Kathryn, Stephanie, Vivian, and Gavin Evans, Ellie and Max Burns, Eden Combs and Chloe Harger; brother, Donald (Irene) Morris; nieces, Nancy (Jeff) Murray, Debbie (Gary) Montgomery, Barbara Shine, Pam Smith, Donna (Mike) Schmidt, Susan (Mike) Lawson, and Karen (Bill) Greathouse; nephews Mike Morris and Mark (Molly) Denien; and many beloved cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Maysel Irene Morris; sister, Virginia Denien; and brother, Robert Morris.
Calling will take place on Monday, January 14th from 4pm to 6pm at Leppert Mortuary, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240. Additional calling will take place on Tuesday, January 15th from 11am to 12pm at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12pm. Pastor Rob Fuquay will officiate.
