Jerry Root

Jerry Lee Root, 65, of Vallonia, died at 8:39 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital, Salem.  He had been ill for 4 months.  He retired from Nabisco/ConAgra Foods after 35 years of employment.  Jerry enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.

He was born on April 26, 1954 in Seymour to the late Elbert “Nick” & Beulah Stewart Root.  On October 27, 1982 he married Loretta Dowell Root and she survives in Vallonia.  Other survivors include children; Bobby (China) Ivey, Kentucky,  Loretta (Daniel) Bryant, Kentucky, Angie Root, Beech Grove, IN, Tammy (Jerry) Krick, Beech Grove, IN, Jerry (Rhiannon) Root, Jr., Shelbyville, IN, Sherry (Roger) Plank, North Vernon, IN, Elizabeth Ivey, Indianapolis, IN, George Collester, Texas, Vallerie (Dustin) Freeman, Kentucky; 17 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Michael Root, North Vernon, IN & Roger Root, Vallonia, IN; 4 sisters, Marie Henry, North Vernon, IN, Karen Lashbrooks, North Vernon, IN, Judy Burris, Pekin, IN, & Brenda Root, Vallonia, IN.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Christopher Carson.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia.  Friends may visit the family on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time.  Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be given to Johnson Funeral Home.
