Mr. Don L. Fisher

 

Mr. Don L. Fisher, age 91, of Madison, Indiana formerly of Borden entered this life on January 9, 1927 in Borden, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Palmer and Lillian McCutchan Fisher. He was raised in Borden and was a 1945 graduate of Pekin High School. Don was inducted into the United States Army on April 16, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He served as a clerk typist, guard patrolman and heavy truck driver with the 77th Infantry Division on Hokkaido, Japan during World War II. He then rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant serving in the 46th Engineer Construction Battalion during World War II. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1946 from Camp Beale, California receiving the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He received his Bachelors at the University of Louisville where he was the catcher for two years for the Baseball team and in 1957 he received his Masters from Butler University. Don was proud to have tried out for the Pittsburg Pirates Baseball team. On August 27, 1951 he was united in marriage to Harriett Knight. Harriett and Don were blessed with sons, Terry and Rick. Harriett passed away after six years of marriage on September 22, 1957.  From 1951-1960 he served as the Coach and Principal at Hope High School and was the first Principal at Hauser Junior and Senior High School in 1959. On March 26, 1959 Don was united in marriage to George Anne Trinkle at Hardinsburg, Indiana. This happy union of 58 years was blessed with a son, Jonathan. In 1960, he began employment with the Madison Consolidated School System and served as Counselor, Director of Guidance, and Dean of Boys, retiring in 1988. Don enjoyed golf, hunting with his beagles, was a master gardener, raising swans and being on his farm. He was a faithful member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Madison and held membership in the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association and the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association. Don died on Monday, March 12, 2018, at 6:45 p.m. at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY

Don will be missed by his loving wife of 58 years, George Anne Trinkle Fisher of Madison, Indiana; his sons, Terry Fisher and his wife, Sheila of Lake Wiley, South Carolina, Jonathan Fisher and his wife, Cheryl of Baltimore, Maryland; his grandchildren, Tyler Fisher and his wife, Stacey, Tanner Fisher, Alex McClure, Madison Fisher and Ryan Fisher; his great grandchildren, Landon and Grayson; his sister in law, Shirley Slatin and her husband Gerald of Lexington, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his first wife of six years, Harriett Knight Fisher, died September 1957; his father, Palmer I. Fisher, died October 28, 1980, his mother, Lillian V. McCutchan Fisher, died July 12, 1979, his son, Rick K. Fisher, died October 27, 1985; his sister in law, Wanda Taff and her husband, Andy.

FUNERAL CEREMONY

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Dennis Ingle at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 412 West Main Street in downtown Madison, Indiana.  Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana.

VISITATION

Friends may call Friday from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana and Saturday from 12 Noon until the time of service at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 412 West Main Street in downtown Madison, Indiana.

MILITARY HONORS

A final salute will be conducted at the Trinity United Methodist Church by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion and the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit with full military honors to follow at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel.

MEMORIAL EXPRESSIONS
