Samuel Hammons

Samuel Hammons, 71, of Salem, died on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, at the University Of Louisville Hospital. He was born on July 28, 1950, in Austin, the son of the late Edward and Gladys (Adams) Hammons.

He served during the Vietnam War as a SP5 in the U.S. Army. On Dec. 5, 1971, he married Donna (Spellman) Hammons, who survives.

Sam was a former employee of Seymour Housewares in Seymour, for many years. He was a member of the Scottsburg Church of Christ. Sam loved to fish, plant in his garden, and spending quality time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bob Hammons.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Sam (Heather) Hammons II, Campbellsburg and T.J. (Tina) Hammons, Lexington, Indiana; two daughters, Hope Wingler, Salem and Casey Hammons, Austin; two brothers, Charlie Hammons, Salem and Richard (Paulette) Hammons, Uniontown, Indiana; grandchildren, JD Shoults, Mariah Shoults, Gavin Henson, Cory Simmons, Courtney Anderson, Mattlyn Sample (Julian), Hadlee Bush; and great-grandchildren, Amelia Glover, Aiden Glover, Kylee Sample, Ariel Brewster.

Funeral Service is a 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg with Pastor Matt McGlothlin officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m.  to time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. The family is requesting that masks be worn at the funeral home for services. Interment at Spurgeon Cemetery in Austin. Online condolences can be made at www.collinsfuneralhome.net.
