Sylvia “Faye” Richert, age 86 of Salem, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital - New Albany.  “For a part of Us went to Heaven, the day God called you Home”

Born on March 31, 1933 in Elizabeth Indiana, Faye was the daughter of the late Horace Greeley and Edna Pearl (Shewmaker) Stewart.

Formerly of Harrison County, she was a 1951 graduate of Elizabeth High School and a resident of Washington County since 1957.  Faye was a retired teacher’s aide with the Franklin Township and East Washington Elementary School Corporation.  A devoted homemaker and farmer’s wife, SHE DID IT ALL!  Faye’s life was spent selflessly serving others.                                                                                        
Faye was a founding, former member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Salem and attended the New Salem First Church of God.  Her family proclaims she was an amazing cook, loved gardening, bird watching, and hunting mushrooms.  An honest, humble lady who found ultimate joy in family traditions, family get-togethers, and family first.  She’s instilled great strength and faith in the blessed family whom she leaves behind.

A significant amount of her time, 67 ½ years to be exact, were spent alongside her husband, George H. Richert, who survives.  Married on September 22, 1951, George and Faye made a remarkable life together,  which includes 6 children, 4 daughters: Beverly D. (Mark) Shepherd of Salem, Brenda L. (Russ) Uphold of Louisville, KY, Valerie L. Simpson of Salem, and Dr. Judith R. Richert (Steve Brady) of Salem; 2 sons: Bradley W. Richert of Salem and Terry D. Richert of Hoagland, IN; 2 brother-in-laws: Ora Jr. “Boots” and Roger Richert and 2 sister-in-laws: Patricia Larabee and Claudia Holmes.  Faye is also survived by: 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, all being her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers: Horace Jr. “Lloyd”, Johnie, and Robert “Wayne” Stewart and 1 granddaughter: Rochelle.

Funeral Service will be held: 11:00 am Monday, April 29th at Dawalt Funeral Home with interment following in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be: 4:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, April 28th and 9:00 am until the time of the service on Monday.
