7 arrested on drug charges in Monday bust

Seven people were arrested following a drug bust at 601 Berkey St., in Salem on Dec. 18.

The Washington County Drug Team executed a warrant for the house Monday afternoon following a months-long investigation. During the search, investigators found more than 15 grams of methamphetamine, scales and other items used in the distribution of methamphetamine.

Jonathon Austin McCartney, 21, Salem, was arrested for two counts of visiting a common nuisance (Class B misdemeanor) and possession of methamphetamine (level 6 felony) and Michaela Samantha McCartney, 23, was arrested for visiting a common nuisance with a minor (a level 6 felony).

Deanna M. Bennett, 40, Salem, was arrested for visiting a common nuisance (a Class B misdemeanor) and Justin Hasting, 28, Palmyra, was arrested for dealing methamphetamine (level 3 felony), visiting a common nuisance (Class B misdemeanor), possession of methamphetamine (level 5 felony), possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor) and possession of paraphernalia (a Class C misdemeanor).

Samiel Crady, 37, Pekin, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine (level 5 felony) and visiting a common nuisance with a minor (Class B misdemeanor) and Harley Smith, 22, was arrested for visiting a common nuisance (Class B misdemeanor).

Kyla Kinslow, 39, Salem, who was hired as Salem Middle School coach last month, was also arrested in the bust. She has yet to have any real interaction with students as try-outs aren’t due to start until next month.

“Mrs. Kinslow had been slated to be the Salem Middle School swim coach,” reads a statement from Superintendent Lynn Reed. “In light of her arrest, she will not be employed at Salem Community Schools.”

She’s been preliminarily charged with the following: dealing in methamphetamine where the drug is at least 10 grams but less than 28 grams (level 2 felony), two counts of dealing methamphetamine (level 3 felony), three counts of maintaining a common nuisance (level 6 felony), neglect of a dependent (level 6 felony), possession of marijuana (Class B misdemeanor) and possession of paraphernalia (Class C misdemeanor). As of Tuesday afternoon, she was still in the Washington County jail with a cash bond of $54,000.
