Stephany Thurman, 33, Pekin, was killed in a car accident early Saturday morning.

She was driving a purple 2003 Dodge Durango north on Franklin Church Road around 2:30 a.m. when her vehicle traveled left of center for unknown reasons and off the west side of the roadway. Thurman overcorrected and went off the east side of the road and the vehicle flipped and rolled, landing on its top.

Police say there was evidence at the scene indicating Thurman was not wearing a seat belt. She was pronounced dead at the scene from head trauma.

Her passenger, Matthew Lozier, 33, Salem, who told officers he was wearing a seat belt, appeared to have no injuries and refused EMS treatment at the scene.

Responding to the scene were Sheriff’s Deputies Lucas Gray and Allen Taylor, along with Washington County EMS, Franklin Township First Responders, the Washington County Coroner’s Office and Wilcox towing.
