Thursday morning accident results in fatality

An early morning accident resulted in a fatality Thursday.

At approximately 4:22 a.m. deputies of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the intersection of State Road 56 West and State Road 337 in Livonia.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered Bret Freed, 43, Orleans, was deceased. Evidence at the scene and witnesses statements indicated that Freed was operating a 2012 Toyota Corolla and was south bound on State Road 337 when it came to the intersection of State Road 56 West. Free continued through the intersection and failed to stop for unknown reasons. Freed’s vehicle was then struck by a semi tractor trailer that was west bound on State Road 56, driven by Kenneth Cupp of Salem. Cupp was not injured in the crash.

The investigating officer was Deputy Allen Taylor. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
