Just after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, State Road 56 West was closed for almost 2 1/2 hours following a two vehicle crash with injuries.

Evidence at the scene and statements by the drivers involved indicated that Brandon Hawkins, 23, Milltown, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am eastbound on State Road 56 when he crossed the center line and struck a log truck that was being driven westbound by Jonnie Gibson, 65, Campbellsburg. Hawkins said he believed he had fallen asleep while driving. Gibson sustained minor injuries and Hawkins was flown from the scene by air ambulance to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The crash is being investigated by Deputy Lucas Gray and he was assisted by members of the Livonia Volunteer Fire Department, Campbellsburg Volunteer Fire Department, Salem Fire Department and the Washington County Ambulance Service.
