Gerald Johnston, 53, Campbellsburg, and Teresa Webb, 54, Salem, were arrested during an attempt by State Troopers Kyle Taylor and Tyler Matthew to serve a warrant on Johnston around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9.

Taylor said when he knocked on the door of 176 N. Hickory St., in Campbellsburg, Johnston answered and Taylor could smell a strong odor of marijuana. Taylor placed Johnston under arrest and while speaking with him, saw in plain view a straw cut in half on the coffee table. Based on his training, Taylor presumed the straws were being used to snort controlled substances. Matthew and Taylor applied for a search warrant for the home and while clearing the home, they found Webb, along with another straw, similar to the one located in the living room. She was also taken into custody.

About an hour after the troopers arrived at the home, they had their search warrant. Inside the bedroom, officers found a plastic bag containing about 5.3 grams of methamphetamine, several containers with a crystal substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, a bag containing a plant material that tested positive for marijuana, a glass smoking device that had burnt marijuana in it, a brown substance that tested positive for heroin, a rolled up playing card with a crystal substance that contained methamphetamine, several spoons with burn marks and residue, a bag containing approximately 1 gram of heroin, several empty bags with residue, digital scales with a residue that tested positive for methamphetamine and several used syringes.

In the kitchen, Trooper Travis Baker found a bag of a powdery substance. While field testing the powder, a small amount spilled out of the package and some of the powder was accidently inhaled by four troopers present for the testing, which determined the powder to be cocaine, about 62 grams. EMS was called and medically cleared all four troopers.

Both Webb and Johnston were transported to the Washington County Detention Center.

Webb was preliminarily charged with the following: possession of paraphernalia, dealing in methamphetamine, dealing in cocaine or narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of cocaine or narcotic drug, possession of a syringe and maintaining a common nuisance.

Johnston was preliminarily charged with the following: dealing in methamphetamine, dealing in cocaine or narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of cocaine or narcotic drug, possession of a syringe, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of paraphernalia and failure to appear.
