A Pekin man lost his home and all his belongings in a mobile home fire Wednesday evening.
Pierce-Polk VFD members were toned out at 6:52 p.m. to 9422 Misty Hollow Rd. Chief Jeff Miller said, upon arrival, units found a working fire involving an older single-wide mobile home.
He said the structure was about 50% involved. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in an hour and remained on the scene until around 9 p.m.
About half the home was completely destroyed and the other suffered heavy heat, smoke and water damage.
Franklin Township VFD provided additional water. About 6,000 gallons were used in all. Washington County EMS was also present, assessing firefighters to ensure they remained safe in the heat.
Miller said the home was being rented by Kevin Deck. He was not home at the time, but arrived shortly after the first fire units.
The fire started in the entry/living room area. Deck told firefighters the home had had electrical issues in the past. While the cause is undetermined, Miller said the blaze could have been electrical in nature.
Deck did not have insurance. Miller said the Red Cross did respond. Anyone else wishing to help may contact Miller through the Pierce-Polk VFD Facebook page.
