Claywell Signs with IUS

Isabell Claywell burst on the scene as a freshman at Eastern to help lead the Lady Musketeers to a state championship in 2017. Now she will continue her playing career at the college level, just down the road at IUS.

Continuing her career at the college level means a lot to her Claywell said. “It means a lot to me,” she said. “We spent a lot of time and money and it’s finally paying off. I’ve worked so hard to get to this point and it’s just awesome.”

Claywell said she chose to be a Grenadier because of the proximity to home. “It’s close to home so my family can still come and watch me play. And I just really loved the coaches as well.”

Another perk of going to IUS is that she will not be alone. Instead Claywell will be joined by two former Lady Lion players in Leah Miller and Lettie Nice from Salem. Claywell said playing with those two is going to be fun. “It’s super cool how it worked out. We kind of talked about it and said it would be really fun to play together...Lettie and I played together on an AAU team recently and Leah and I played together a long time ago when we were kids. It’s an easier transition going to college knowing I’ll have them there with me and we will all be going through it together.”

While in school Claywell said she plans to get her BS in Nursing, and then from there go on to medical school to be a neonatal nurse practitioner.

Claywell also considered Anderson, LaGrange in Georgia among other schools. She said she really gave every school that talked to her consideration and appreciated all their interest, but ultimately IUS just felt more like home.

Her favorite thing about basketball is the competition she said and that’s what she is looking forward to. “I love the competition and just competing. I’ve made so many friends over the years across different teams and in AAU. The support from all the fans and the crowds was awesome. Even back to when we won state all of our crowds were awesome. We had some big crowds and they were just great.”
