Salem softball gets for consecutive wins

The Lady Lions still have a question mark on the mound when it comes to pitching. After their win on Thursday night over Eastern they might have come closer to answering that question. Lexi Garloch pitched a gem for the Lady Lions, hurling a no hitter, and the Salem bats were consistent throughout in route to a 16-0 win over the Lady Musketeers.

Salem Head Coach Duane Malloy said it was a good performance for his team having won back-to-back conference games. “We started out with three conference games and we’ve won two out of the three. We had a really strong pitching performance from Lexi Garloch. She threw a no hitter and only allowed one walk. So we are very happy about that. We had some good hitting performances. Paige White had a home run and a double. Olivia Steward also had four hits. So we had good hitting, good pitching, and our defense backed up our pitcher. For us that’s a very solid effort.”

The Lady Lions’ bats were a big reason why they pulled out the win as well, putting up at least two runs in every inning. Paige White had a big blast over the fence and six RBIs in the game. Malloy said he was happy to see the runs coming consistently inning by inning. “I’m always happy to get a rally or get a mark every inning. I call it getting a mark every inning. When you can mark every inning that’s nice. That’s what we did. We scored every inning. We were pretty consistent about that.”

Salem followed up their win over Eastern with an exciting win on Friday night over Providence 9-8. After leading 4-0, the Lady Lions fell behind 8-4. They tied the game up in the sixth and then got a walk off win when White slid home on a wild pitch to give Salem their fourth win in a row. They will try to make it five in a row when they travel to Paoli Monday. Eastern will travel to Henryville on Monday as well.
