The Salem Youth Wrestling Club will host a meet with Silver Creek Tuesday in the high school auxiliary gym.

The action begins at 6 p.m. and admission is $2/person or $5/family.

Kurtis Walters, who coaches the team with his brother, Brett, said he would love to invite the community out to watch the youngsters in action. The youngest age group is kindergarteners.

This year's team is twice as big as last year's with 25 members. More than half are in their first year of wrestling. Despite the inexperience, the squad is performing very well.

At the Jasper Invitational Sunday, Salem placed eighth out of 25 teams. "You don't do that – you just don't!" said Kurtis, noting that invitational is very competitive. He describes the group as full of talent, drive and heart.

For more wrestling action, come out to the County Wrestling Meet on Thursday at Salem. All three county schools will wrestle at all levels – youth, middle school and high school. A combined score from all three teams at each school will determine the county champ.
