Janet L. Ratts, Indianapolis, was born in Salem, Indiana on February 4, 1951, to Frances Jean (Smith) and Stanley Ratts. She died on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Stanley Ratts, and sister Donna Purkhiser. She is survived by her uncle, Bill Smith of Seymour, Indiana, and brother-in-law Harry Purkhiser of Hudson, New Hampshire.
Janet attended Indiana University and graduated from the Indiana Physical Therapy Program in 1973. She worked as a physical therapist for 40 years at St. Francis Hospital, specializing in home care for over 20 years of her career. She was very dedicated to helping her patients remain in the home setting. Janet was a member of the Southeastern Church of Christ where she enjoyed her role on the church Welcoming Team. She loved dogs, especially Dobermans and Miniature Schnauzers. Janet also had a passion for gardening, traveling, shopping trips, experimenting with new recipes, and trying new restaurants. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, at 7:00 P.M. at the Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home, Moore & Kirk Irvington Chapel, 5342 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, with visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Dr. Greg York will be officiating. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 14, at 1:00 P.M. at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that donations be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis, or the Southeastern Church of Christ.
