Voyles Road accident sends two to the hospital

Around 5:17 p.m. today, the Washington County Sheriff's Department received a 911 telephone call, reporting a two vehicle crash, on Voyles Road.

Sheriff Roger Newlon and his deputies responded to the call, as well as the Washington County Ambulance Service, Air Methods air ambulance, Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Pierce/Polk Volunteer Fire Department.

The driver of a 2003 Ford F250 truck was traveling south on Voyles Road, while the driver of a 2005 Mazda van was traveling north on Voyles Road. The driver of the van traveled off the right edge of the roadway for an unknown reason and then over corrected as the driver veered back onto the roadway. The van began to slide counterclockwise and was struck on the passenger side by the truck, causing major damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the van was flown from the scene to Kosairs Hospital in Louisville for treatment of unknown injuries. A passenger in the truck was transported to St. Vincent Emergency Room for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The driver and passenger of the truck were wearing seatbelts, while it is unknown if the driver of the van was wearing a seatbelt.

Deputy Paul Ginkins is investigating the crash.
