Property tax bills have been mailed

It is business as usual for the Washington County Treasurer’s Office. Treasurer Nancy Coats states property tax bills are prepared and were mailed on Monday, March 29.
Coats wants property owners to know that property tax payments will be due May 10, and Nov. 10, in 2021. Property taxes are a vital element in keeping the county running.
The courthouse is open to the public and mask wearing is optional. Coats encourages property owners to make their payments by check, money order or cashier’s check at the gray drop box on the south side of the courthouse or by mail to 99 Public Square, Ste. 101, Salem, IN 47167.  Make sure to include the payment coupon so payments can be posted to the proper accounts.  Coats also asks that no cash be put in the drop box or sent by mail.
Cash may be paid in person at the treasurer’s office or at any First Saving Bank branch. Payments can also be made online at www.washingtoncounty.in.gov  or by calling (877) 690-3729 with Jurisdiction Code 2499.  Both payment methods are processed by Forte and a convenience fee will apply.  Mortgage companies should make payments for property owners with escrow accounts.
Coats said if you would like a receipt for your payment, include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment.  Property owners can also check for posted payments at www.washingtoncounty88.us, click on “Treasurer,” then choose “Property Tax Information.”  The next screen allows users to search by last name, property address or parcel number, click on the parcel you are researching and at the bottom of the page a receipt number and date will appear.
If property owners have questions or concerns about the property tax bills, they may call the treasurer’s office at 812-883-3307 Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Coats can be reached via email at treasurer@washingtoncounty.in.gov or ncoats@washingtoncounty.in.gov.
If a tax bill is not received by May 1, property owners should contact the treasurer’s office so a bill can be reprinted.
Coats asks for patience during this busy time.
